IMD 3901 Term Project - Blog Post 3

Introduction

Welcome to the second blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's first in-class meeting to discuss our progress, our dividing of the roles, and other project choices we made throughout the week.

Challenges

Our group's main challenge was dciding the time period and style of art to work on in our project. After talking about the feasibility of various options during our in-class. We went through many options, including a different era and style in each room we made, to one era but different styles, to one style but different eras, and it looks a lot of research to end up with something we feel would come together nicely while also having some connection to ArtEngine and Ottawa/Canada in general. Our final idea was to focus on the work of Cornelius Krieghoff, who documented the life of the first British and French settlers in Canada. He has many different scenes of different environments, so our plan is to made 3-5 environments that the user will travel to upon interact with the painting within the gallery.

Successes

I would call this week in general a big success my me and my group. Aside from choosing our era, having our ideas for interaction and teamwork down, we worked on assigning roles. My role is mainly going to be working on our 3D models, as well as helping Malik with texturing and mapping. Once the models are complete, I will also work on coding them into the game and setting up the different environments. As well, we set up a team Trello board for so everyone can see all the tasks currently being worked on, those done, and those that need to be done. Our GitHub repository was set up so that we can get to work on the coding aspect. Lastly, we set up a Figma page to keep track of the artists and art to be used in our experience, and for other sketching and notes that need to be done. With this solid foundation, we will be able to get started on the heart of our project in the coming weeks.

Time Spent on the Project

My main time working on the project this week was in group meetings, both in class and outside of it. I have not done as much individual work as I'd have hoped, but still put in good time in our group meetings. Overall, I would say I spent 2-3 hours working in group settings this past week.

Introduction Welcome to the fourth blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's progress in the proposal and alpha presentation, as well as my first progress with modelling. Challenges Our main challenge was the presentation slides, which we revised multiple times prior to presenting. we needed to make sure everybody was on the same page, and made sure we knew who was presenting what, as well as that our presentation was engaging. Another challenge that came my way over the last couple of weeks was modelling. It had been a while since I had modelled, so it took a few reminders and refreshers on different tools, but once I refamiliarized myself with them, I got to work. IMD 3901 Term Project - Blog Post 8

I ntroduction Welcome to the eighth blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's progress in the past week, including modelling the raft environment. Challenges I did not have any major challenges faced this past week that I couldn't overcome. One issue I had was in the creation of the terrain of the raft environment. The way I had the faces set up was incredibly uneven and I realized that I needed to start over so that all the faces of the terrain could have a more consistent distance and have similar sizes the whole way through. I also had a minor issue in creating the navmesh of the terrain. I had the navmesh as its own object in maya, but the existing terrain as a reference. The first time I created the navmesh, I accidentally deleted some portions of the final terrain, leading to to have to start over again. IMD 3901 Term Project - Blog Post 6

Introduction Welcome to the sixth blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's progress in the past week, as we keep working on the assignment. Challenges Like the week prior, the biggest challenge this week was lack of time. I had to focus on other classes/assignments for most of the week, including A3 for this class. The rest of the group also had limited time, but that did not mean we had no time at all. We were still able to meet and go over our plans for the week ahead, and made good progress on the game in terms of interactions. Thankfully, the week ahead will be less hectic, and I will be able to focus on more modelling. Successes One main success this week was the creation of 3 frame models for use within the studio environment.
