I ntroduction Welcome to the tenth mid-project blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my progress in the past week, focusing on VR navigation and setting up circles Challenges Because I have focused solely on modelling for the project so far, I had not got the chance to fully set up circles on my laptop. It took multiple hours for me to get it working, as there were issues with MongoDB not being in the right place, as well as ngrok not working properly. Eventually, I got circles working, and was able to enter into the virtual gallery. The focus leading up to Friday will be successfully implementing the VR controls, for moving and picking up objects. Successes The main success was that after all of the trial and error, I finally got circles working on my laptop, for use testing and finishing up. As well, I was able to find VR resources for A-Frame, to help with the testing and coding I would be doing. I feel confident in getting it finished for the presentations on...

I ntroduction Welcome to the ninth and final mid-project blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's progress in the past week, including more modelling and environment creation. Challenges There were no major challenges this week, only minor ones. The first challenge encountered was in the UV Map Creation for the sled models I created. The way Maya interpreted the shapes I created resulted in some incredibly wonky maps that took twice as long to fix than it would have normally. As well, I only realized this mapping issue after I had finished creating my 5 sled variations, so I had to repeat the entire process for each sled. I should have tried and tested on one before creating the rest. Another issues I had was figuring out the terrain for the blizzard environment. I had to be reminded of Maya's soft select feature, otherwise I likely would have been moving individual verticies to create the snowy terrain. Successes The biggest success was being abl...

I ntroduction Welcome to the eighth blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's progress in the past week, including modelling the raft environment. Challenges I did not have any major challenges faced this past week that I couldn't overcome. One issue I had was in the creation of the terrain of the raft environment. The way I had the faces set up was incredibly uneven and I realized that I needed to start over so that all the faces of the terrain could have a more consistent distance and have similar sizes the whole way through. I also had a minor issue in creating the navmesh of the terrain. I had the navmesh as its own object in maya, but the existing terrain as a reference. The first time I created the navmesh, I accidentally deleted some portions of the final terrain, leading to to have to start over again. Other than that, all my tasks were clear, and I got them all done within the timeline I gave myself. Successes My biggest success was the cr...

Introduction Welcome to the seventh blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's progress in the past week, including the beta presentation, and more modelling work done by me. Challenges The main challenge experienced by me in the past week was the fact that some of the textures for my models were not properly loading in Circles. I did some troubleshooting, and manually recreated the shader nodes for my models, the easel, chair, and palette. While doing that did not work, I tried downloading a Maya gltf exporter plug-in to help, but unfortunately that did not work either. Eventually, I exported them as fbx files, which got the job done to work in the file. Another issue encountered was that my raft models were not centered in the interaction section of the scene. After going back and forth, I was able to get each of the 6 models centered within the interaction screen, so it looked right on screen. Successes My main success this week was the modelling of ...

Introduction Welcome to the sixth blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's progress in the past week, as we keep working on the assignment. Challenges Like the week prior, the biggest challenge this week was lack of time. I had to focus on other classes/assignments for most of the week, including A3 for this class. The rest of the group also had limited time, but that did not mean we had no time at all. We were still able to meet and go over our plans for the week ahead, and made good progress on the game in terms of interactions. Thankfully, the week ahead will be less hectic, and I will be able to focus on more modelling. Successes One main success this week was the creation of 3 frame models for use within the studio environment. These will add to the atmosphere of the original painting, which has frames scattered throughout the walls. As well, another success was planning out my work for next week. As we are moving on to the second environment, I ...

Introduction Welcome to the fifth blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's progress in the past week, as we start working toward the beta test/presentation. Challenges The biggest challenge this week was lack of time. With a test, a midterm, and multiple other assignments due during this past week and this coming week, it was very hard to find time to get work done on the project. As a result, I did not get as much work done on this than I have in the previous weeks, and the same was true for the rest of the group. However, progress was still made on the project, which is good. I would have liked to get some models for wall frames, but unfortunately I couldn't get that done. That will be a priority this coming week, along with finding more pre-made models we can use for the various scenes, and potentially editing the textures to better suit the environments we are recreating. Successes There were still some successes this week, such as the communc...

Introduction Welcome to the fourth blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's progress in the proposal and alpha presentation, as well as my first progress with modelling. Challenges Our main challenge was the presentation slides, which we revised multiple times prior to presenting. we needed to make sure everybody was on the same page, and made sure we knew who was presenting what, as well as that our presentation was engaging. Another challenge that came my way over the last couple of weeks was modelling. It had been a while since I had modelled, so it took a few reminders and refreshers on different tools, but once I refamiliarized myself with them, I got to work. Lastly, it was tough balancing my work on this with the various other assignments I had/have to work on. It's a busy time of the year, and I still managed to set aside a good chunk of time for work on this project. Successes Despite the various challenges, there were still lots of succe...
