IMD 3901 Term Project - Blog Post 9

Introduction

Welcome to the ninth and final mid-project blog post for the IMD3901 Term Project! This post will cover my group's progress in the past week, including more modelling and environment creation.

Challenges

There were no major challenges this week, only minor ones. The first challenge encountered was in the UV Map Creation for the sled models I created. The way Maya interpreted the shapes I created resulted in some incredibly wonky maps that took twice as long to fix than it would have normally. As well, I only realized this mapping issue after I had finished creating my 5 sled variations, so I had to repeat the entire process for each sled. I should have tried and tested on one before creating the rest. Another issues I had was figuring out the terrain for the blizzard environment. I had to be reminded of Maya's soft select feature, otherwise I likely would have been moving individual verticies to create the snowy terrain.

Successes

The biggest success was being able to complete all of my tasks despite not having as much time as in the past couple of weeks. I started off with modelling the various sleds and the cross seen in the centre of the painting admist the blizzard. As opposed to previous models I had made, I also created UV Maps for these. After a little while of not being able to do other work, I managed to create the blizzard environment, including the terrain. I got some fence and pine tree models from Sketchfab to speed of the process, and placed them to match the original painting. I also added the cross. Getting everything done within the week was very big, and it allowed the rest of the team to continue with their work.

Time Spent on the Project

I spent around 5-6 hours total this week on the modelling and UV mapping.
